PRIVACY POLICY

Date of Last Revision: March 4, 2009

The Williston Federated Church respects your privacy. We will never sell, share, or distribute our User/Member lists with or to marketing or other organizations, except 1) as required by the United Methodist Church and the United Church of Christ as it pertains to their respective members, or 2) as required by our website design consultant(s) in the context of Site maintenance or upgrade.

We do not use the User/Member lists to generate unsolicited email, individually or en mass, except as necessary to confirm your registration, to confirm updates to "My Profile", or in extraordinarily rare circumstances at the discretion of the pastor to communicate time-sensitive and crucial news.

Members of the Church, and those who register to access protected areas on the Site, give the Church permission to maintain a copy of limited regitration/profile information in our online database and to keep additional copies of the database on Church computer(s) for backup purposes.

During the User registration process, and during subsequent visits to the Site's 'My Profile' update area, Users will be prompted to provide personal contact information such as mailing address, phone number, and/or email address, and to upload personal photos as they see fit, in keeping with the provisions of the Terms of Use (User Content Posted on the Site). Aside from the User's first name, last name, username, password, and date of birth, all other personal identifying information is optional.

Within the 'My Preferences - Privacy" area, and for each component of personal information, the User must specify whether that information is to be either

  1. not propated anywhere on the Site by the dynamically-generated pages that are capable of doing so ("Lists"), or
  2. propagated through the Site, where appropriate, for viewing only by Church members, or
  3. propagated through the Site, where appropriate, as fully public or world-readable,
The default option, in all cases, is B). Users are free to modify their privacy settings at any time.

Individual names and/or contact information may occasionally appear on pages or in sections of the Site outside the context of the dynamically-generated Lists, described above. Such pages include, but are not limited to, the monthly Steeple newsletter, the quarterly Little Steeple newsletter, the committee assignments pages, the various church group pages, and/or the home page. The Church and its web content editors will strive to respect the privacy settings of a User's online profile, and/or seek a User's prior approval before incorporating this information into such sections or pages on the Site.

The Church will comply with the request of any User/Member who contacts us to have their User/Member information removed from the online database.

e-Steeple ~ weekly announcements: When the online tools for eSteeple dissemination are up and running, we will begin sending by email the eSteeple (~weekly) to those Users who have not opted out of receiving these ~weekly announcements. Users are free to opt in/out of receiving the eSteeple at any time. To do so, log in, click "My Profile", and advance to "My Preferences - Keeping in Touch".

Steeple ~monthly newsletter: When the online tools for Steeple dissemination are up and running, we will begin sending by email attachment the Steeple (~monthly) to those Users who have opted into receiving the monthly newsletter electronically. We expect this will save the Church time and printing/mailing expense, and be environmentally friendlier too. Users are free to opt in/out of receiving the Steeple by email attachment at any time. To do so, log in, click "My Profile", and advance to "My Preferences - Keeping in Touch".

COMPUTERS, COMPUTER SYSTEMS, AND NETWORKS ARE NOT INVULNERABLE. THE CHURCH AND THE SITE WILL EMPLOY METHODS TO KEEP THE PERSONAL INFORMATION OF ITS USERS SAFE AND CONFIDENTIAL, IN KEEPING WITH EACH USER'S "MY PREFERENCES - PRIVACY" SETTINGS DESCRIBED ABOVE. HOWEVER, GIVEN THE INHERENT VULNERABILITY OF COMPUTERS/SYSTEMS/NETWORKS, THE CHURCH AND ITS AFFILIATES MAKE NO GUARANTEE AGAINST THE POSSIBILITY OF DATA MINING OR DATA THEFT AS IT PERTAINS TO THE PERSONAL INFORMATION PROVIDED BY USERS. IF A USER SUSPECTS HIS/HER STORED PROFILE INFORMATION HAS BEEN COMPROMISED, S/HE SHOULD PHONE OR EMAIL THE CHURCH OFFICE AT ONCE.
