Our Story: Vermont’s First Federated Church

In 1899, our congregation made history. The Methodist and Congregational churches of Williston chose to set aside denominational competition to form a single, shared community of faith—becoming the first federated church in Vermont. For over 125 years, we have proven that distinct traditions can flourish under one roof. Today, we continue to honor our roots as a dual-denominational congregation, proudly affiliated with both the United Church of Christ (UCC) and the United Methodist Church (UMC).

Our Mission

“Our church is an inclusive community which enthusiastically welcomes and gathers all people to share the wonder of God's love. Together we seek to find fullness of life through Jesus' teachings, to reach out into the world to live lovingly and justly as followers of Christ, and to respond actively to human needs.” (Adopted 2024)

Radical Hospitality: Everyone is Welcome

We are an Open and Affirming and Reconciling congregation. To us, these aren’t just titles—they are a promise.

  • We celebrate all people regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, race, age, or ability.
  • Full participation: You do not need to be a "member" to lead, serve on committees, or receive the sacraments. If you are here, you belong.

Faith in Action: Our Community & Missions

We believe faith is meant to be lived out loud. Our 1899 spirit of unity drives us to solve modern challenges through:

  • Refugee & Immigrant Justice: We partner with the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI) to furnish homes for new neighbors and advocate for just immigration policies.
  • Hunger & Housing: From supporting the Williston Food Shelf and the "Souper Bowl of Caring" to preparing meals for Dismas House, we show up for those in need.
  • Social Justice: We are active in the Williston Racial Equity Partnership and stand as a public witness for peace and equity in Vermont.
  • The "Peace Candle": Every Sunday, we light a candle to remind ourselves of our call to be peacemakers in a divided world.

    You Belong Here—No Strings Attached

At Williston Federated Church, "all are welcome" isn't just a phrase; it’s how we live. You don’t need to be a formal member to fully participate in the life of our church. Whether it’s joining us for worship, serving on a committee, or reaching out to our neighbors in need, your hands and heart are welcome here exactly as you are.

While membership is a beautiful way to make a public statement of your faith, it is never a requirement to belong. If you’re interested in learning more about officially joining our church family, Pastor Paul Eyer would love to chat with you after any service.
